Karnataka Rolls Out Digital Forest Boundary Monitoring System

Karnataka Forest Department has introduced a real-time Digital Forest Boundary Monitoring System using drone footage and satellite imagery to protect forest areas from encroachment. The system digitally overlays official forest maps with live aerial visuals and alerts local officials when boundary breaches or tree clearances are detected. Initial deployment in Bandipur and Nagarhole ranges has already resulted in the identification and prevention of 32 illegal logging attempts and 17 boundary intrusions. The state plans to integrate the system with the land revenue department to prevent encroachments before illegal construction begins.
